The Banking and Currency Department aims to protect and foster an image of credibility, excellence and prestige through professional and superior banking services.

The Banking and Currency Department provides banking services to the Government of Belize, statutory bodies, foreign and local institutions, and members of the public.

The Banking and Currency Department performs these core functions:

  • Manages and issues notes and coins
  • Provides banking services to the Central Government, other public sector entities and financial institutions
  • Manages the Bank’s foreign reserve holdings
  • Regulates and oversees the National Payment System
