What do you do?

I am an Economist in the Economic Intelligence Unit of the Research Department. I specialize in monitoring, analysing, and forecasting developments in the banking and financial sectors.

What part of your work do you most enjoy?

I enjoy deep technical analysis and being able to have in-depth mentally stimulating discussions with other professionals in my field. It’s great when you are able to find the various linkages between the different sectors of our economy and fully understand the economic implications of how issues on the international stage apply to our local context.

What do you like about working here?

The Central Bank of Belize has a lot to offer to its staff. I like the opportunity to travel and network with people all over the world and the efforts placed into developing and training staff to become better at their respective crafts. I also like the camaraderie that is fostered through sports and various social activities and events.

Why did you want to work for us?

The Central Bank of Belize is the premier institution in this country when it comes to economic analysis, output and promoting economic development. The Central Bank of Belize is the institution of choice that various external and local stakeholders meet with to forecast economic growth and discuss the latest developments. We also lead a bevy of projects aimed at economic development such as the National Financial Inclusion Strategy and oversaw the modernization of the National Payments System. The prestige of this institution comes from the work that it does in leading the charge for economic growth and development. That is why I wanted to work here.

Tell us about your career at the Central Bank.

I have worked at the Central Bank for just under five years, and it has been a fantastic experience. I have been able to travel overseas, meet experts in my field both international and local, make friends with the great people that work here, attend trainings to develop my technical skills, and learn a myriad of things that I would not have been able to learn anywhere else.
