The Central Bank is responsible for monetary policy, which includes maintaining a stable exchange rate and promoting credit and exchange conditions that encourage growth in the Belizean economy.

The Central Bank governs dealings in gold and foreign currency, financial transactions between residents and non-residents involving exports and imports, and various capital transactions.

The Central Bank of Belize Act gives the Bank the sole right to issue notes and coins in Belize. Therefore, only such notes and coins issued by the Central Bank of Belize are legal tender in Belize.

The Central Bank of Belize facilitates the issue of Government securities in which the public may invest. These include Treasury bills, Treasury notes and Treasury bonds.
